University of Kuopio Department of Computer Science and Applied Mathematics Report Series A (ISSN 0787-6416) Instructions for authors (and for the editors, too) This is a series of original research reports of work done in or related with the Department of Computer Science and Applied Mathematics. The reports are available as Postscript files and as printed reports. The Library of the University of Kuopio distributes reports to about ? universities on exchange basis, to ? collections. In addition, the Department sends 7 free copies required by the state, are sent to the Library of the University of Helsinki, address Helsingin yliopiston kirjasto Vapaakappaletoimisto PL 26 00014 Helsingin yliopisto The Department also distributes the reports to all computer science departments (15) in Finland. The author can get extra copies for sending the report to the interested people. Additional copies are reserved for visitors and other inquiries. Because of the distribution cost, the reports should be written tightly, using the style of journal articles. If necessary, one can write another more extensive report, submit it to Report Series B, and refer to it. The format, in particular the cover, should follow the previously appeared reports. The report should have an abstract, to be included in the file of abstracts, and the author(s) should propose the class of the report in the ACM classification. The manuscript is submitted to the editor in chief of the report series (currently, in fall 1998, Martti Penttonen) for acceptance. The editorial board consists of the professors off the Department, who use other referees if necessary. For the details following the acceptance of the report, consult the editor. The reports are numbered by the label A-yyyy-n, where yyyy is the year and n is the running number in that year. Hence A-1994-5 is the fifth report in 1994. The ISSN number of the series is 0787-6416. The editor gives the author the individual ISBN number of the report, provided by the University Library (in fall 1998, NN). The final form of the printed report, the compressed Postscript file, and the abstract (in ASCII) are submitted to the editor for duplication and filing. The editor takes care of duplicating the report, distributing, and filing it. For network access, the following files in cs.uku.fi are updated. The title is added to the list of reports, http://www.cs.uku.fi/information/research/technical_reports/index-A.html and the abstract to the file http://www.cs.uku.fi/information/research/technical_reports/Abstracts-A.html The report file, itself, will be http://www.cs.uku.fi/information/research/technical_reports/A-1998-?.ps.gz The original printed report and extra copies should also be available from the office of the department. Summary: - write the report using journal article style, proposing the ACM classification - submit the report (1 copy) to the editor in chief - if the report is accepted to the series, the editor gives the report number and the ISBN number - make cover page. A skeleton page in LaTeX and university logo in eps form are found in http://www.cs.uku.fi/research/publications/reports/repcover.tex http://www.cs.uku.fi/research/publications/reports/uku.eps - submit the final printed report in paper, and the files containing the abstract and the whole report in compressed Postscript form - the editor (with help of staff) makes the required 52+n copies in pink covers and distributes them to the library (20+10), to vapaakappaletoimisto (7), to the cs departments (15), and n copies to the author - the editor updates the index, abstract, and report files in the www directory of cs.uku.fi Report Series B The Report Series B is intended for work that is not qualified or suitable for publication in Series A, but is still worth publishing for some reason. A typical use might be the documentation of a software project that is too extensive and detailed to appear in Series A. So, a research report appearing in Series A could refer to the implementation documented in Series B. In short, the procedure of acceptance, publishing, and distribution is the same as for the Series A, but without the ISBN number and the 52 printed copies. The editorial board of the report series consists of the professor and the associate professors of the Department. The accepted reports are numbered by the label B-yyyy-n, where yyyy is the year and n is the running number in that year. Hence B-1994-5 is the fifth report in 1994. The following files in cs.uku.fi are updated: http://www.cs.uku.fi/information/research/technical_reports/index-B.html http://www.cs.uku.fi/information/research/technical_reports/Abstracts-B.html http://www.cs.uku.fi/information/research/technical_reports/B-1998-?.ps.gz Summary: - write the report - submit for publication and get the report number - provide the final printed paper, the abstract in (HTML), and the compressed Postscript file for update of web archives
