This is the home page of the aforementioned course for the 2nd
quarter of the academic year 2009-10. Its contents evolve as its
lectures progress. Contact its lecturer prof. Matti Nykänen for
further information.
This course will be given in English whenever there are
foreigners in its audience. Hence all material will also be in
English.
Passing the course with the lowest grade 1/5 requires at
least 1/2 of the total exam points. Higher grades
accumulate linearly so that the highest grade 5/5
requires 5/6 of the total exam points.
These exams cover the material discussed in the lectures and
exercises.
Exercises are optional, but solving them gives extra points,
which are added on top of your exam points before grading. Their
maximum is 1/5 of the total exam points. These extra points
accumulate linearly based on the number of exercises reported as
solved in the exercise groups.
Passing and grading are determined as above. However, any
extra exercise points accumulated during the lectures are no
longer taken into account, just the exam score itself.
These exams cover the course book chapters on which the lectures
were based.
These lectures are based on selected topics from the course book
Russell, Stuart &
Norvig, Peter: Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach,
2nd Ed. (Prentice Hall, 2003). The corresponding
chapters of the book are 1-4.2, 4.5-4.6, 6-7.5, 7.7-9.2 and
9.5-10.3.
You can fetch a discount coupon to its publisher's web
store from the door of the department office.
The current lectures and exercises will appear into the timetable
below at the end of each lecture week.
The previous lecture materials in Finnish from years 2008
and 2003 are
also available. Note, however, that the exams will be based on
the current lecture material in English.
Lectures and exercise groups are held by prof. Matti Nykänen.
The exact times and places within each week are in the Wossikka
system.
And Season's Greetings to everyone!
There was an extra lecture on Thursday at
12 in room MT2, to account for the cancellations on
week 51.
